Covers House
Objective: To create an inclusive forum that welcomes creative expression and performance by musicians of all brand and non-brand including band and solo act, novice and established alike.
Why cover songs?
The rent is cheap. The words are free.
Experienced artists and courageous players can consider the cover song as a base for creativity rather than an obstacle to expression while inexperienced and any potential apprehensive participants have rhyme & reason to tap into their creativeness on stage, audience present.
A non-intimidating place to stretch-out your Est-ness.
+ I like cover songs, done right or done totally wrong in a very unwell way, rules known and broken.
++ Cover songs are generally accepted/well received.
+++ I do not know your band.
I might know XTC and you might know XTC and I might like that and so may he.

Where: La Casa in Mt. Pleasant, Washington, DC
How much: $5 donation
Why are you charging this time?
Consider the "donation" in this description totally legit; in the past, these events have been free of charge and in the spirit of DIY I intend to --strive-- to keep the charge below the rope. Previously, any money spent came out of my own pocket as well as core crew involved and willing to donate. This event has little to do with business and everything to do with making creative connections and the above mentioned objective.
The donation will hopefully cover unforeseen problems we've been unable to cater to in the past. For instance, a resident donated their house to be used the last Covers, and house not being accustomed to the this many people that came & went, bathroom / sewage problems like m a j o r happened. In the end, the sewage problem didn't really get worked out so well and I felt totally bad.
I am not making any money from this event, and any extra funds (be there any) will be donated to suitable charity, HW5 published on this blog.
