Sweet.

The Facebook medium:
Less than we need.

This is our new blog, a proper medium for all this stuff going on and this Coffeehouse event which is being held on July 26th at La Casa in Mt. Pleasant.

Right now I'm sitting at Mayorga Coffeehouse in DC with Tymon and a few other people, and we're just tossing ideas around about this upcoming gig and how to keep things in order.

To kick off this blog, let's mmm...let's feature some music relative to the event. If you've come here and have no idea what "Covers Coffeehouse" is, stay tuned. I will totally cover everything in the next entry. For now, this is just a test run.

Tymon suggested / led the way to the video below by Pleasantville, NY musicians Sweet Nothing Music Collective (SNMC), now disbanded, which features members of several bands scheduled to perform at the coffeehouse on July 26th.

According to Tymon, this former New York qunitet (plus or minus 1 or 2 musicians) features lead vocals from Aaron Maine on a song orignially penned by bass player & lead vocalist Chen Longo. The original lineup of the band consisted of members Kolson Pickard, Kevin Farrant, Chen Longo, and Aaron Maine. Ryan Hickey and Orien Longo later joined the Collective.

Tymon, good friend and collaborator, and also a member of the band Kapteyn, says:

"Aaron and Kolson usually switched off between keyboard, drums, and guitar. Everyone would switch around a lot. Chen was usually on bass, though, and Ryan was usually on drums. Orien drummed for them for awhile, and then Kolson took over that spot, and eventually Ryan took over for good. Sweet Nothing Music Collective went through a lot of transformations."

Eventually, circumstance caused the band to stop playing together.

"Kolson started going to school in Potsdam (NY) for awhile. That was one of the reasons. The Longos moved to Cold Spring, Kevin started working in art and going to school a lot. Ryan went to Ithica, which is about seven hours away from the band's hometown of Pleasantville,
and Chen joined Gandalf Murphy. Aaron started making his own music and making his own name.

"From the ashes of SNMC came Buffalo Eskimo, Aaron Maine and the Reilly Brothers, Chin Lingo, and The Din of Mechanical Whales."
